"unknown shell" in tmux

In tmux, any dispatch command output starts with complaints from hub and direnv

There is nothing clever going on in my tmux.conf

What is the value of :set shell? and :echo $SHELL?

What is :set shellcmdflag??

In what file do you have your hub alias setup?

Both direnv and hub recommend installation in .zshrc, not .zshenv. I'll push a potential workaround, but at the end of the day, if your .zshenv can't cope with a blank environment, that's a problem with your .zshenv.
