Would love the ability for TubePress to display videos that were uploaded
from my computer, or that are located a specific URL (or bunch of URLs).
This would also be a good work-around for the fact that TubePress does not
show private videos.

Thanks for considering and keep up the great work!

Thanks for adding this as an issue. There are quite a few design decisions to be made
regarding implementation, but I'm looking forward to tackling them with your input. I
have a few other high priority issues that need to be resolved before I get to this
one, but at least now it's on the schedule.

LaneGoldberg & laoudji, this is something I have asked of Eric too. Tubepress
provides the gallery but having the ability for site visitors to upload their own
videos to my server is something I really need.

Eric, how far off development are you to providing an upload feature?

I forgot to add that I have scoured the net to find a suitable alternative. I found
Kooluploader BUT implimenting it to operate is the trick as the developer fails to
address my request to provide installation instructions. Even telling me what files
go where would help. He writes about a file but doesn't mention the name!! Wierd.

A simple basic install process would be great. to no avail. But I am still searching
and if I locate one I will let you guys know and swap out.

YouTube Direct just came out today. My impression is that it may meet just about all your uploading needs.
Check it out and reply back here with your comments.

http://apiblog.youtube.com/2009/11/enrich-your-site-with-youtube-direct.html

If you agree that it would meet your needs, I'll likely close this issue as I don't want to reproduce functionality
that YouTube already provides.

I was considering using TubePress for my Wordpress site, but I don't want to have my
videos on YouTube listed publicly. I think one of the original intents of this issue
was to have TubePress list/display private YouTube videos on a website through some
sort of authentication method. Has this been further explored? The YouTube Direct
thing is slightly different and meant for user-submitted video responses. The thing
is so complex, I can't figure out if it supports private videos or not. Thanks!

I wanted to find out if the next version of TubePress will have this enhancement
included, specifically to be able to pull private videos via the API.

I would absolutely, truly be TubePress Pro member, if the next version of TubePress
can do what robertbruce09 is requesting!

Rather than displaying YouTube-hosted videos, if a video can be uploaded to my own
server and THEN be displayed in TubePress, this would definitely be a winner. There
is a great demand out there for self-hosted videos combined with what TubePress has
to offer.

If anyone even knows how to modify the existing version to play videos uploaded on
the same server as TubePress is installed, I’d be a very happy person, along with
many others, I’m sure! Thank you!!

OK, enough people have asked for this that it will be implemented. Given the large
number of changes going out in 2.0.0 (see
http://code.google.com/p/tubepress/wiki/VersionHistory), this feature will be bumped
to first priority for 2.0.1.

I hope to have 2.0.0 out in the next week or so. After which point development on
this feature will begin.

Hi eric,

Yes the feature to have videos in our own server and have them imported by tubepress
would be awesome.

  • Allow to upload videos to server from tubepress/ a flash uploader would be awesome
to handle multiple uploads/ user can select or create a folder to place the uploaded
    videos/
  • Allow to give videos a categorie/ this is to display all videos from a specified
category in a post or single page via shortcodes [tubepress cat_id=1 vid_limit=10
    order=views] something similar
  • allow to edit tags title description etc
  • If user uploads videos to server from ftp client, then allow TB to import them, on
import display list of videos imported so user can edit its tags description and give
a category, use ajax to bypass having to refresh the page on saving changes.

Now that YouTube has incorporated Unlisted videos, will TubePress support this feature?
I had originally looked into TubePress and this issue #128 to allow me to host non-
public videos on YouTube and have them embedded on my password-protected website. With
the unlisted video feature, couldn't a plugin like TubePress have an option to display
the unlisted videos via their special private link?

@lordofthisworld, I think what you're after (display of unlisted videos) is certainly
possible, but should probably be tracked in a separate feature request. Please feel
free to add this:

Is there any projected release date for this feature? I just purchased Tubepress Pro and was going to implement this feature myself. However, I see it is currently being worked on and wanted to see if I can expect it to be available in the near future. Sorry for my impatience, I'm on a tight time frame for the project I'm working on.

Hey. TubePress user here and big fan of the plugin. I've been looking around the web for info on TubePress fetching videos marked as private, but came up empty. It seems that it's not possible in the current version but that this feature request would take care of that. I'd love to see it implemented, more and more people like the idea of a big video service (YouTube, Vimeo) hosting their videos but then they themselves can frame them as they wish (their own site with their own distribution methods) and switch the videos as private on the original hosting.

Cheers,
Matt

I know there are technical reasons why TubePress can't index the private videos, especially since they are limited to only 25 selected YouTube users. But what about the new "Unlisted" videos? Those are essentially private since they don't show up in YouTube searches or in the featured videos but can be easily shared with anyone if you provide the link to the video. Can TubePress handle those?

I also really like the 'unlisted' video idea, which eliminates the issues with using 'private' videos. It's been a while since I've looked at how Tubepress works, but doesn't it utilize playlists? It seems like YouTube does not have an option for unlisted video playlists. I can be wrong or there can be workarounds. Either way, using Tubepress with unlisted videos can win my heart!

We are at version 2.29 and I don't believe the self-hosted video feature is yet a part of Tubepress. Is there an update on outlook for this feature? Is it not being implemented because of any specific challenges? This would be a fantastic feature! Thanks.

A quick update on this (highly requested!) feature. The changes will likely be made as part of TubePress 2.5.0. This is not the next release of TubePress. Please see the roadmap (http://code.google.com/p/tubepress/wiki/Roadmap) for details.

It's a very complicated feature to actually implement, which is the main reason that it's taking time to complete. Thanks for your patience and stand by for updates.

Hi Eric,

I love Tubepress and appreciate your work on further developing it! As I would love to also introduce either self-hosted videos or private Vimeo videos I am keen to know when you expect Tubepress 2.5.0 to be launched. Any idea?

Many thanks!
