MS Teams has much more users than Slack. As such it is one of the most popular chat networks not yet bridged to Matrix.

Now that my organization has moved to using teams I am very interested in getting this going.

The problem is that the teams back-end is a whole other beast. It is built using exchange and sharepoint online as the backend for holding all the core user and message data.

But everything needing done can accessed via rest interface. You'd either have the options of using Web hooks to get instant updates from teams, or there is a "delta" option for getting all changes in a channel since the last Check - ideal for polling.

I've had a brief look into it, and it's something I would be interested in working on, but I just don't have the time at the moment. Plus one of the big things we use Teams for is voice calls, which a bridge wouldn't help with. So the teams app would still need to be used extensively.

There's teams chat and teams "teams", the latter being more like a forum. A bridge to just teams "chat" would be wonderful, even without voice calls, all the chats in one place is just superb.

having a bridge to ms teams and lync (skype for business) network would be great teams & lync allow external federation messaging that allows companies to communicate even with on-premise server

I note that matterbridge already has "native" support for Ms Teams and Matrix.

I haven't tried it, but it seems as though it can be used to bridge Matrix and Teams in some way. Presumably it could also be used as a reference to write a native Matrix-Teams bridge.
