not-allowed cursor of a disabled field appears in a <select> menu in IE11 #14528

Consider the following scenario: there's a form with a disabled field and a dropdown list above that field. When you open the dropdown list and move the cursor in the list to the area of the disabled field, the disabled cursor appears instead of the regular cursor you expect when hovering over an open dropdown list. In the case of the screenshot no other CSS than bootstrap.css (3.2.0) was used.

This problem only occurs with IE, in Firefox and Chrome the cursor acts fine. Should I assume this is a bug in IE?

Yes. What version of IE are you seeing this with?
Also, that's a <select> menu, correct?

IE10, and indeed a regular select menu.

Would you mind making your example into a JS Bin?

I'm unable to reproduce in IE 10. Am I doing something wrong?

My mistake, it's IE11.

Ah yes, in IE11 it's reproducible. Doesn't seem like a Bootstrap specific bug though: http://jsbin.com/gitago/1/edit?html,css,output

Thank you for your effort! Is this something that could be added to the "Wall of browser bugs" http://getbootstrap.com/browser-bugs/? I guess it would be more effective if the Bootstrap team reports this to the developers of IE instead of me?

There is now a test for this in the W3C CSS WG test suite: w3c/csswg-test#800

There is no solution.
We can't do anything about this on the Bootstrap side.
This has to get fixed on the IE/Edge side; see https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/817822/
