I am looking for people who are willing to support the project financially, so I can commit to working on it in a full-time capacity and invest more of my time into bringing Music Presence forward and implementing the next big features.

The purpose of this issue is to offer a place where I give updates on the current donation progress and to notify people if the donation goal has been reached. This will happen on the 10th of August 2025.

Today is the 10th of August, which is official the end date of the donation goal, as you likely have seen in the FAQ on the website. Like I promised, I'm here to give you an update on the donation goal and how I plan to continue from this point onwards.

We have reached almost one third (33%) of the goal! That in itself is honestly astounding and I am extremely grateful for your support. When I published the news, I wasn't really sure, if this would go anywhere. I didn't expect that so many of you would make the decision to support my work. The fact that you did reassures me though, that there is a future in Music Presence.

For that reason, even though we didn't quite reach 100% and I can't commit to the app full-time just yet, I will be able to spend about ~4 days a week (including weekends) on the next milestone, last.fm scrobbling.

Over the last two weeks I have done a lot of research on the topic, as scrobbling can be quite complex, if you want to do it right:

• I have compiled a detailed overview of what the initial scrobbling implementation will look like: Last.fm scrobbling implementation progress #365. Note that I will give this an update once I have figured out all the intricacies that come with parsing and analyzing song metadata. Read on for more information on that.
• For those that want to report only the primary artist to last.fm I have good news: Music Presence will be able to scrobble the primary artist with near 100% accuracy, even when the media player reports a list of multiple artists. I've come up with an algorithm which can split a list of artists like Clean Bandit & Marina and The Diamonds into Clean Bandit and Marina and The Diamonds and then only scrobble Clean Bandit to e.g. last.fm or a well-formed list of all artists to other platforms that support scrobbling all artists, like ListenBrainz and Maloja. This works 100% offline.

I'm excited to work on the rest and give you another update soon! I am pretty certain that I should be able to still publish scrobbling within September, though probably towards the end of the month.

It's December and I have great news! Thanks to your support, Last.fm scrobbling is progressing well and is now available as a beta on the Discord server! See my comment here for more information and screenshots: #365 (comment)

I'm not going to say progress has been quick, as there was more to work on than I initially anticipated - I never heard of scrobbling until recently - but it would have been even slower without your support. Thank you to everyone who has been going out of their way to make a one-time or even monthly donation, it means a lot to me to be able to spend more of my time working on this project. ❤️

I'm very happy with the results so far and I'm very keen on implementing the remaining features, which I will work on in the upcoming weeks and allow you to test while I'm developing them as part of the beta.
