What should we do with tweets that are deleted on Twitter?
If a Tweet is deleted from Twitter, the tweet-id is right now still captured in our database. We need to have a conversation about:

  1. Do we want to keep that? @Erioldoesdesign pointed out that it might cause problems for a example an activist that wrote a number of Tweets and then deleted them. If someone has collected those tweets in a deployment, there is still a trace to the activist, even if the tweets are deleted from Twitter.

  2. If a Tweet is deleted and the post is structured. The post still may contain information that the deployment-owner added, that is different to the Tweet itself. Should we remove it or display it? If we remove it, we are removing user-data that we maybe have not right to delete. But on the other hand, it may cause trouble for someone writing and then deleting a tweet.

Workaround for now, until this issue is discussed and decided upon
For now, I hide all deleted tweets, structured and unstructured, from the Front-end. They are however still captured in the database.

Hiding posts connected to deleted tweets from the front-end turned out to be an terrible idea, its hard and hacky, lets sync to see if its possible to do it from the backend instead @rowasc.

@Angamanga We should just add a message to say it's deleted. What does Twitter return if the tweet is gone?

@willdoran Usually something that looks like this:

But we'll have still captured the Twitter ID in the post type. The only thing I'd like considered is the whole right to be forgotten thing and our duty of care on this.

Been meaning to speak to @Shadrock about this for a while. Do you have thoughts?

@Erioldoesdesign In this case, there is a possibility since we are allowed to store both the Tweet ID and the User ID that contextually you could reconstruct a link between some information and person. There are some limitations here in what we can, I believe this may be an element of GDPR that neither Twitter nor the EU has fully thought through so there not be specific guidance for this case but it seems logical that provided we remove the User ID it should break the linkage.

Any better approaches?

@willdoran I think what you suggest sounds good given the guidance out there already and there's a record of this particular discussion.

I would say until we have a documented case of this going badly for a Twitter user (or them via GDPR-ness, requesting their ID be removed from platform too) we should just be aware of this potential outcome.

But I appreciate the discussion :)
