Sometimes I want to preview and compare scene with really slow filter chain (for example, some complex eedi3+nnedi3 stuff). I usually put big caches here to prevent re-rendering (64 GB of RAM is the thing).
So that feature is now gone and I should save uncompressed stuff onto HDD for comparisons? If so, I think it's a downgrade for user experience (as I did that for Avisynth, since it usually crashes on scrolling complex stuff).
Maybe it's good to introduce some kind of node property or core method called on that node that enforce keeping it's output cached as long as possible?

I have already mostly implemented what you suggest. I'll make sure to have some way to tweak every cache option in detail.
