With the attached testcase, runing:

verilator_bin --lint-only 3.sv

with version:

Verilator 4.020 devel rev v4.020-56-gbcb766b

Produces:

%Error: 3.sv:3: Unsupported: Member call on non-enum object 'VARREF 'a'' which is a 'BASICDTYPE 'logic''
               : ... In instance m1
  m2 t(a.f());
          ^
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Fixed in git towards 4.022.

Basically just added an internal error. As noted elsewhere we probably should focus mostly on faults with no error printed.
