@metalicjames metalicjames released this Oct 21, 2020 · 1 commit to 0.16.0 since this release

This updated pre-release fixes a bug with the Verthash data file format which resulted in periodic chunks of empty graph nodes being saved. The update once again forks testnet from block 231000 and thus will require you to resync testnet to switch to the fork using the updated Verthash data file.

This pre-release rebases Vertcoin Core to upstream Bitcoin Core 0.18.1. The previous version of Vertcoin Core is based on Bitcoin Core 0.16.0, therefore checking the Bitcoin Core release notes for versions between 0.16.0 and 0.18.1 is a good way to see what changes have been made: https://bitcoincore.org/en/releases/. Beyond the parameter changes needed to make 0.18.1 sync Vertcoin, the software is the same, and thus the same release notes apply.

A big thank you to @hwengmgr for their hard work on completing this rebase!

@metalicjames metalicjames released this Jan 6, 2019 · 1 commit to 0.13.0 since this release

This release contains the proposed upcoming Vertcoin main network hard fork to the new Lyra2REv3 mining algorithm at block 1080000 in order to rid the network of the current generation of Lyra2REv2 ASICs and FPGAs. It also contains the hard fork for the test network which already occurred at block 158221. The related pull request is here: #72. The difficulty will be forced down to 0x1b0ffff0 for 10 blocks after the fork before the usual KGW difficulty adjustment algorithm kicks in again to prevent the network from stalling due to the large expected decrease in network hashrate post-fork.

While we cannot force you to upgrade and support the hard fork, we believe it's in the community's best interest to do so, and the developers will not be supporting the old chain. If you do not upgrade you risk loss of funds by transacting on the old and unsupported chain. Thus this should be treated as a mandatory upgrade.

The update also includes a working regression test mode, some UI fixes and an update to the set of DNS seeds.
