Description

the supermatter grade contraband lottery ticket kinda sucks
it doesn't even melt your hand off
the payouts are also very low(got 20 credits twice)

Steps to Reproduce

buy ticket
scratch ticket

What you Expected

buy ticket
scratch ticket
i'm a millionaire now

What Actually Happened

20 credits and i still have both my arms

The initial plan for it was to be an instant 1,000,000 credit win every time but it acts like a supermatter splinter and destroys your hand, but the c*llabs shot that down. Instead the ticket is just a guaranteed winner now and gives off some radiation. If it needs to be "buffed" I could just increase the winnings so that you win more with those tickets.

I scratched 4 supermatter tickets and got a whole 80c. Please buff.
Also, please add more supermatter tickets to the vendor, 5 or so, if possible.

So there are two paths we can take here:

  1. Buff all the tickets winrates since their expected values are all negative. Slot machine has a positive expected value, meaning if you play enough you will always profit, whereas lotto tickets will quickly drain your account. Supermatter ticket would then have an increased expected value (or even have a guaranteed positive win, though that's getting into free money territory).
  2. Turn the Supermatter ticket into the original plan and remove the radblast, make them always win 1,000,000 credits, but essentially turn them into a Supermatter Splinter as a joke item.

What if they have a very high payout but dust you when you lose (and only then)? It'd raise the stakes considerably, and set them apart from the other tickets - which I think is fitting, because they ARE a hacked item.

1,000,000 credits

Dog you can literally just get a piece of wood and slap it where your hand used to be, and having a missing hand is a powergame tool anyway
If it's a guaranteed 20 credits and dusts your hand that's much funnier

(Cartlord's idea is also great)

I like the idea of them working as actual supermatter splinters a lot more than ashing on failure, but that would enable cascades way too often. Make them work as splinters, but they never turn the shard into a crystal, so you still get le funny 2TW power but not constant cascading.

Cartlord commented Mar 1, 2022

I think letting people have bullshit supermatter power without bullshit supermatter risk is a bad idea.

Eneocho commented Mar 1, 2022

I see your point. You could increase the explosion range and sensitivity to pressure/heat with each splinter ticket after the 4th, so you get the bullshit 50dev explosions in a very sensitive shard, but not a cascade. But that'd mean a whole mess of bullshit code.

Have the payout be increased, but also zap you with that many KW of electricity when you scratch. Bypassing glubbs if you want to be cruel.

How bout this: SM Ticket works as a temporary strong stim. 1 Ticket when touching the shard stims to the same degree as having 10 emitters. This stim power lasts for 10-20 minutes. So you can push your luck with 100 shartickets and get the 1000 emitter shitfuck, or do it slowly, one ticket every ten minutes for that 10 emitter experience.
It'd be a strong but not stupidly strong interaction, since each emitter contributes slightly less power than the previous one to a shard.
This would need for them to be cheaper and in bulk, you could make them free, since you're paying with whatever fuckyou effect it has when scratched, or have them be as expensive as a phazon ticket. Either way there should be more tickets per vendor, 5 seems like a good number, not enough for fuck your shit, but enough that you don't need to buy and make 40 lotto machines for a sizeable amount of tickets.

holy shit guys the ticket never was and never was meant to be an actual supermatter splinter, it just blew your hand off

i am going to make a PR to buff these soon just to let this thread die

Was talking with someone who doesn't play about this, they had an idea for the forbidden lotto ticket: What if it gave items, but had some kind of downside?
What if it could give you an EMag that'd superglue itself to your hand?
What if it could force-equip a useful item, but then render you unable to take it off?

I like it.
Scratch the ticket and get a syndie balloon superglued to your hand, or get a special gene syringe that gives you both xray and the retard gene, or a special gun with infinite ammo, but you become a catbeast if you use it once.

Syndie scratch off in the uplink you say?

@Cartlord

Cartlord commented Mar 4, 2022

I wasn't thinking of just having a Syndie theme, you might see it as more in line with the Die of Fate but with items only - maybe you get an EMag superglued to one hand, maybe you get crusader armor you can't take off, maybe you get advanced clown shoes attached to your feet, maybe the worst result is the ticket ashing you, maybe a win gives a syringe containing a Genetics power or a Captain ID card.

I like the idea of forbidden loot ticket more than the guaranteed credits (I've bought 20 SM tickets by now, most I've gotten was 80c, for a tidy 20c loss).
Dumb shit on failure, like, 5 random mobcubes appear alongside an active water grenade, a 100u toxin burned mess superglued to your hand so you need to eat it, fake syndie gear you can't drop, etc.
Chaotic shit on neutral wins, tools with both a good and bad effect, like a gun that massively irradiates when shot, but also irradiates you, a single use wide area bomb that makes everyone inside said area as retarded as the user (comes with a vial of impedrezene), the SORD, gene syringes with both a power and a disability, etc.
Exceptional shit on great wins, emags, strong guns, phazon/bananium, the admin black hole bag of holding, an infinite power cell, etc.

I already am increasing the winnings in my latest PR. You are guaranteed a profit so long as you are reattaching your hand or have a supermatter protection device. I am not going to pursue any of these wacky options you are discussing.

No need to get ornery, man. I was just throwing some ideas.

@Cartlord

Cartlord commented Mar 5, 2022

...But why not make it wacky? It's a contraband item, one Sec could feasibly arrest you for if they're bored as fuck and want to stretch space law. I think it should have some cool use or odd effect to warrant that slight risk.

Have vending machine contraband items ever even been treated like that? Anti-toxin and insulated gloves are contraband vendor items

Cartlord commented Mar 5, 2022

I did check space law to make sure, and while we do have four laws regarding "contraband", none of them mention vending machine items - that's why I specified "if they're bored as fuck and want to stretch space law.".

I think the whacky scratch off would be better as its own thing if anything. Supermatter one is fine with the changes this pr adds, unless an exploit is found.

What if one in five lotto supply packs came with the wacky tickets (mispackaging on tickets meant for the wizard federation)?

Holy shit these ideas are getting worse and worse let this thread DIE and just vote on the existing PR

Eneocho commented Mar 5, 2022

That's not how github works, this will stay up until a PR or collab closes it. And voting for the linked PR won't make it close any faster, since kurf merges content PRs once in a blue moon.
You are free to ignore all the ideas and suggestions however, WYCI is a good answer to ideas you don't want to implement. You should use that instead.

I'm mainly referring to your endless stream of Eneocho Suggestions which are off-the-wall nonsense. A fix to close this has been proposed - vote on that and if it fails, code your own solution.
