What is an Electric Strike?

Electric lock strike? Buzz people in? win!

Denis Kisselev

Or better yet, somehow hook it up to the VHS Asterisk server so that you can text a passcode to VHS and the door unlocks for you.

Alternative option is just RFID cards, makes it easy to grant/remove access and see who's in/out.

Hello, my name is Brian, and I was fortunate enough to be seated next to Vincent on a plane bound for Toronto for the holidays and well... Now I'm super interested in getting involved in the space.

funvill, a door strike is the opening in the door frame that receives the latch of the lock when it is not retracted (knob or lever turned or panic [push bar] device depressed), an electric strike is a door strike that breaks away from the door frame using the action of an electrified solenoid that is either fail-safe (unlocked on power failure) or fail-secure (locked on power failure), application of either type is subject to a number of variables that are determined by the method of operation of the door, hardware restrictions and fire code.

I am currently working in Burnaby as a CNC operator, but have over ten years experience as a locksmith, electronic security technician and certified automatic door technician. If this issue has not been resolved, I would be happy to take a look at the opening for you and give you a threat assessment. I can certainly tell you what kind of electric strike you would need (whether or not it is worthwhile considering the other hardware) and how much you'd be looking at for the parts.
