    The OpenGL loading of textures was going to do this anyway. The only
    problem with OpenGL implementation is that they clamp the values. So
    when loading int images, I would loose every thing outside of 0 and 1.
    This works around that problem by just having us convert to float and
    openGL can just copy instead of clamping.

    Offset is now applied after gain. This makes the effect of offset
    proportional to gain. It makes life a lot easier when viewing
    Hillshade is now a toggle through mulitple 'gains'. Since we don't
    read georeference information, we can't pull out the best
    normalization value. The user can instead just hit hillshade several
    times until they hit a value that show just enough detail to not
    saturate. It changes on a squared value so it should be pretty

    The users will get a nasty fault however when they try to use a pf url
    that is not local. There is no easy way to test if the hostname is
    local or not. They are probably some other libraries which might help
    solve that.

    vwv: don't call update() from code; just call update at timer rate

    We're already calling update() at 30Hz. This also redraws every frame
    rather than skipping ones where it thinks it isn't dirty; it doesn't
    always know when it's dirty, and this doesn't seem to use more cpu.
