You need to place three jar files extracted from epubcheck-1.2.zip like:

  • epubcheck-1.2.jar
  • lib/jing.jar
  • lib/saxon.jar

The comment posted on 2011-08-19 provides a resolution for this issue.

The epubcheck jar is dependent on jing.jar and saxon.jar being present at a relative path location of /lib.

This error can be easily reproduced by copying the epubcheck jar into a new location without the /lib dir and contents [jing and saxon], and attempting to validate an epub package.

Status: Responded
