If I leave certain camera settings at their default or auto setting and then capture an image, is there a way to read out what the current state of those settings are?
When I try something like camera.capture('test.jpg') and then immediately query one of the settings like camera.ISO I see the output as, in this case, 0L
the same goes for camera.shutter_speed
camera.exposure_mode and camera.awb_mode both output u'auto'
That just tells me I am using auto mode but not what specific settings were chosen
Is there a way to query the camera settings that were just used aside from pulling from the exif if you I use jpeg output?
The reason behind this query is that for capturing a sequence in low light level I figured it would be easier to first let the camera choose its auto settings and then afterwards hardcode in those setting to make sure they remain constant thru the entire image sequence rather than making some large loop over all possibel camera settings and then sifting through the images to find the best one

Hmm ... I'm not aware of any method of doing this via the MMAL interface (which in turn means there's no method of doing this in picamera), beyond your suggestion of querying the Exif data in a capture. Might be worth asking this question on the camera forum as there's a more general crowd there (including some of the firmware devs themselves) who very likely know a few tricks I don't!
