Not sure what is going on but when I go to install a package, package control is not showing up anymore. I checked my installed packages folder and Package control is in there and I even tried deleting it and then re-installing but it's still not showing up. I am running ST3 on Linux Mint 17. Any idea what may be going on?

@FichteFoll
Contributor

It's 99% disabled (for some reason, I suspect a bug in PC itself). Check your ignored_packages setting in the user settings file.

@wbond, maybe it's worth adding this to the troubleshooting section at packagecontrol.io?

@thisguychris

same here, its not working on OSX, tried reinstalling package control of no avail.

Also trying to install it again I'm getting:
174110

I don't know what does that mean.

@CLaBruno
CLaBruno commented Feb 9, 2015

I figured out what the problem was. There seems to be some sort of bug that popped up during the most recent update so what you need to do is go into the default settings and scroll down to where it says "ignored packages" and remove Package Control from the ignored packages list. Then just restart Sublime. Hope this helps.

@dhershman1

This fix worked for me ^
However instead of default mine appeared in user settings. removed and then restarted sublime now its running like a dime again.

This happened to me as well after removing the sublime text 3 beta version and going back to using sublime text 2. Removing it from Settings - user worked for me.

@Darrenbydesign

Thanks for posting the resolution to this issue @FichteFoll . It saved me from more hours of frustration!

Anyone know why this happened in the first place?

@salf This issue is closed.

Your issue seems to be that something is causing plugin_host to crash. Try https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/3/revert.html to get to a known good state and then try reinstalling packages one at a time. Be sure to save a copy of your old user folder so you do not lose any customizations.

@salf
salf commented Apr 30, 2015

Absolutely new install of ST3 without packages leads to plugin_host error and package control cannot be installed :( Something wrong with my system I guess...

@LaceyChen17

Thanks a lot! removing Package Control from the ignored list works for me.But I am still confused about why PC is in the ignored list

@salf
salf commented May 18, 2015

@rrevanth It was unsuccessful install of PC (manually, by copied plugin into packages folder, and using script) - silent result with nonworking plugin.
What I did: updated xcode with installation of command tools, installed all security updates, fix all errors/warnings in homebrew.

@salf
salf commented May 18, 2015

Highly required a notification part of package_control or ST3, to be absolutely sure what's wrong!

@AndrewEQ

Removing "package control" from "ignored_packages" in Sublimetext > Preferences > Settings - User worked for me.

@salf
salf commented May 27, 2015

I can't imagine how the package_control could get into ignoring list?? It's a most important and useful thing in Sublime Text

@leomperes

ignored_packages +1

@daphneokeefe

Brand new download of ST3 for Windows x64, first time on this machine. Neither preferences file has the ignored_packages problem. When I added package control, I also got a file named 0_package_control_loader.sublime-package. When I restarted ST3, a popop advised me "Package Control: 1 missing dependency was just installed. Sublime Text should be restarted, otherwise one or more of the installed packages may not function properly." But I couldn't install packages.

So after trying everything suggested here so far, I uninstalled the 64-bit version and deleted the AppData files. Then I installed the 32-bit Windows version of ST3, got Package Control (and the "missing dependency"), and was able to add a package using the Preferences > Package Control: Install Package menu.

I had no such problems installing the same build (3083) on OSX a month or two ago.

So maybe there is still a problem with the 64-bit Windows version which has been fixed in the OSX and 32-bit Windows versions.

@birendragurung

Solution is:
just go to PREFERENCES>>SETTINGS-USER and the file will open like:
"ignored_packages":
[
"Vintage"
"Package Control"
]
}

Just delete the line that contains Package Control then restart.. Problem solved

@nonstriater

first, look at my installed packages:

at pref>setting-user:

but still not show “package control". like:

ST build 3083. why?

@pbil
pbil commented Oct 9, 2015

@nonstriater , you must do exactly as described at https://packagecontrol.io/installation#Manual

in Manual section

copy downloaded file "Package Control.sublime-package" (without unzip) to folder "Installed Packages", not to "Packages"

@nonstriater

@pbil ,I try that, and put the "Package Control.sublime-package" to folder "installed packages",restart ST,still not working

@nonstriater This issue is closed. If you are having trouble, please open a new issue with a copy of the contents of your ST console. And please keep the language clean, otherwise you will not be welcome here.

@pbil No, a manual install is not usually the solution to something like this. Instead, https://packagecontrol.io/docs/troubleshooting#Purging_and_Reinstalling is more likely what you want.

@goodfellamilos

@CLaBruno Yes, that was it, thanks man. Only in my case it was under ignored packages, but in User settings.

@ORESoftware

wow, yep, in "settings user", Package Control is ignored:

{
    "color_scheme": "Packages/Color Scheme - Default/Monokai Bright.tmTheme",
    "font_size": 12,
    "ignored_packages":
    [
        "Vintage",
        "Package Control"
    ]
}
@supernova23

thinks (y)

@totallytotallyamazing

On Mac OS 10.9.5, Sublime Text 3 - Go to Preferences then Setting - User and just delete "Package Control" which was designated as "ignored_packages": That did the trick for me. Thank you @CLaBruno and @dhershman1

@moncifbf1

this works for me thanks!

@boutrosabichedid

Just in case anyone having the same issue:
I am using SublimeText3 on Windows8 OS. After the latest build update (build 3103) I had 2 issues:

  1. package control is not showing up anymore AND
  2. plugin_host is crashing.

The solution that works for me was to reinstall "Package Control.sublime-package" (delete the old file and replace it with the new file in the '...AppData/Roaming/.../Installed Packages' folder) as described in this link: https://packagecontrol.io/installation

@pedramsaleh

Ran into this with build 3103 for OSX too, and installed it using the manual command (starting with "import urllib.request...") described in the link in the post right above mine. After that it worked fine.

@flisboac

I use Arch Linux and Sublime Text 2 version 2.0.2 build 2221 (from AUR), and I'm experiencing the same problem. None of the solutions discussed so far have worked for me: Follows what I have tried until now:

  1. Package Control wasn't in the ignored list.
  2. Reinstalling through the Console didn't work because "TypeError: 'frozenset' object is not callable" (seems to be something wrong with import urllib2 and its dependencies, sys.version yields me '2.6.6 (r266:84292, Jun 16 2011, 22:27:44) \n[GCC 4.4.5]').
  3. Reinstalling Package Control manually didn't work.
  4. Extracting the sublime-package into the Packages folder didn't work.
  5. Uninstalling Package Control and then manually installing it as per the official instructions didn't work.
  6. Uninstalling Sublime Text and then installing it again didn't work.
  7. Deleting ~/.config/sublime_text_2 and then installing Package Control via console resulted in what is described in (2)
  8. Deleting ~/.config/sublime_text_2 and then installing Package Control manually also didn't work

Not having Package Control to help me discover plugins is very annoying... :(

@flisboac

I just fixed it for me. Follows my solution for those using Sublime Text 2 on Arch Linux or its derivatives.

The AUR package currently makes a symlink to /usr/lib/python2.7, and that may cause some incompatibilities because Sublime Text expects the Python 2.6 library instead. My solution was to install python26 from AUR and re-symlink /opt/sublime-text/lib/python2.6 to /usr/lib/python2.6. An example:

$ yaourt -Sy python26
$ sudo rm /opt/sublime-text/lib/python2.6
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/python2.7 /opt/sublime-text/lib/python2.6

When you start Sublime Text again and try to access the overlay menu (Ctrl + Shift + P), a popup may appear complaining about something related to Package Control and SSL, and I solved that by reinstalling Package Control -- although it did not happen when I restored my ~/.config/sublime-text-2 backup, so your mileage may vary.

This should also work, if adding yet another package to your system is not an option (also, python26's testing stage takes ages:

$ cd /opt/sublime-text/lib
$ sudo rm -f python2.6
$ sudo mkdir python2.6
$ cd python2.6
$ sudo unzip ../python26.zip
@boutrosabichedid

The main cause for this Problem for my case is the "CSS Extended" Plugin. After I disabled it I had no issue. See the 2 links for more info.

@balboah But seriously, if you could try to create a debug log of this happening and create a new issue with it, it could be helpful in reproducing it. I don't know if it is only happening on a certain platform (Windows comes to mind since the filesystem locks .sublime-package files), or only with upgrades from Package Control 3.1.2 to 3.2.x. Any help or info you can provide can help me try to fix it.
