Profile Update Leaves Old Email Address on List Server #1007

A customer writes...

I have set up a page with the [s2Member-Profile /] shortcode so that logged in users can update their own profiles. I am not going to do it for them via Users --> Edit...

So when a user updates their own email address they get a WordPress notification to let them know that it was changed as follows:

Since the checkbox for receiving updates via emails
is checked as follows:

... they then receive an email from Mailchimp to confirm that they wish to continue receiving emails as shown:

... once the user confirms that they wish to be subscribed to the list, they get a confirmation email from Mailchimp as follows:

At this point, if I check the Mailchimp list I see 2 entries for this user:

Based on your documentation shown below, I expect the existing entry in Mailchimp to be UPDATED when a user updates their email address in their profile. I do not want a second entry CREATED for this user.

  • Bug Fix: Updating profile via [s2Member-Profile /] when changing email addresses may leave the old email address on configured email list servers in some scenarios. Props @renzms for reporting. For further details see issue #1007.

Short-Term Patch Instructions

  • Download this updated file and upload via FTP. Allow it to override your existing copy of s2member/includes/classes/profile-mods-in.inc.php

(s2Member/s2Member Pro) Bug Fix: Updating profile via [s2Member-Profile /] when changing email addresses may leave the old email address on configured email list servers in some scenarios.

Confirmed as Working

Steps Taken

  • Installed Version 161117-RC + s2Member Pro v161117-RC
  • Configured MailChimp configurations, (List Servers, API etc)
  • Applied info in respective s2Member Panels
  • signed up using an email address and confirmed subscription via email
  • changed email via Member Profile page with [s2Member-Profile /]
  • confirmed subscription via email with new email
  • verified in MailChimp Dashboard that subscriber email has changed and no duplicate/second profile was created
