MAKEOVER EDITION!

makeover

cha cha cha

Installation: If you're installing from scratch, just download the WINNITRON_v2.3.0_install.zip file and unzip to C:\. If you want to put it elsewhere on the drive, that's cool too but requires one extra configuration step. Setup and config details are available in the wiki.

Upgrading: Same as above, but download the WINNITRON_v2.3.0_upgrade.zip file. The Launcher files are the same, but there are fewer files in WINNITRON_UserData so as not to overwrite anything you've already got installed - we just need to give you an updated language file and the intro.mp4 and background.mp4 files to put in WINNITRON_UserData/Attract/.

  • Gather stats on game play! Each time a game is started or stopped, that event is sent to the Network; devs can see how often their games are being played (and on which Winnitrons), and Winnitron-owners can see which games are being played on their machines. Cool stuff, right? Right!
  • Improvements to game cover images:
    • Launcher now always uses the image specified by the developer on the website (i.e., the one specified in the winnitron_metadata.json file), rather than just searching for a png and hoping for the best.
    • Speaking of pngs, now also supports jpeg. The future is now! 😅
    • It still falls back to previous behaviour, though, if it can't find the specified image file for whatever reason.
  • Bug fixes for custom key maps.

Installation: If you're installing from scratch, just download the zip file and unzip to C:\. If you want to put it elsewhere on the drive, that's cool too but requires one extra configuration step. Setup and config details are available in the wiki.

Upgrading: overwrite your existing WINNITRON folder with the one in the zip file.

As always, any questions you can send over to support@winnitron.com or twitter: @winnitron1000

This one is exciting!

  • Support for games with custom key bindings!
  • Support for Winnitrons with custom key bindings!
  • Whoa! That is exciting!
  • Remote logging via Loggly
  • Configurable log levels (less spam in the log file means easier troubleshooting)
  • Support for launcher_keep_awake
  • A bunch of bug fixes, of course

You can check the new Winnitron configuration wiki page for details on how to set up and use these features.

If you're upgrading from v2.0, you don't need to do anything extra - just download the zip and overwrite your WINNITRON folder with the new version. Your existing WINNITRON_UserData folder and its contents (games, options file, etc) are still compatible as-is. Game metadata will automatically update on first sync.

Hey! It's the official release of the Winnitron v2! All the major features should now be implemented even though there is room for improvement. Launching and force quitting should all work well now.

Thanks to everyone who helped test: Ludonaut, Daniel, Dylan, and the rest of the Winnipeg Game Jam crew!

Please let us know if you have any issues or tell us about you game or arcade machine build.

Features

  • New and improved force quitting and game handling
  • Included .BAT file for improved windowless border mode! Please use this when launching.

Fixes

  • Now Oopses when it can't find the settings JSON
  • Jukebox music restarts properly on game quit
  • Checks for changed metadata during sync
  • Sends custom user-agent header on sync
  • Improved AHK templates (still could use work)
  • Reports launcher version with sync
  • Hides mouse cursors on game launch
  • Launcher should no longer get stuck on manual sync
  • Ouput_log.txt writes timestamps now
  • Attract screens should no longer have games selected in background
  • More buttons trigger games to launch

Watch out!

  • If you're upgrading from 2.0-rc1 or 2.0-rc2, be aware that some of the keys in winnitron_options.json have changed. Make sure they match, otherwise you'll get defaults only

Another release!

The major feature in this one is PICO8 support. If you want to enable it in your Winnitron build, you need to download NWJS.exe to the proper folder. Please see the wiki on how to make that happen. Otherwise, this release is full of a bunch of fixes, see the full list below.

Please let us know if you have any issues or tell us about you game or arcade machine build.

Features

Fixes

  • Launcher sends version number to network on request
  • Fixed writing AHK templates
  • AHK templates now are generated on sync and placed in game folders for easy checking
  • Better mouse hiding on launching games
  • Added legacy flash AHK template
  • Made game closing more robust
  • Games now launch on home button press
  • Fixed manual sync (pressing enter)
  • Output_log.txt now outputs timestamps

Hey hey!

We got a fresh new build here for you and this time it's got two awesome new features: Holding ESC to force quit games, and quitting games when there's no input for a set amount of time. Trust me, this is key to the arcade experience.

Please let us know if you have any issues or tell us about you game or arcade machine build.
