Our mission is to empower people with their personal information and make it universally useful to them. Copper is a tool that organizes your personal information in one account that you own so that you can use online services without the need for a sign up form or password. We collect some information in order for you to have a Copper account and other information that is necessary to make the service work. We view the information you share with us as yours, but under our care, and are committed to respecting your privacy.
Please take some time to read this Privacy Policy. It applies to your interactions with the Copper application and our website at https://withcopper.com (“Copper” or our “Services”). It explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. Information We Collect
You may choose to provide us with personal information, and give us access to information, to use Copper.
We collect information that you provide us or give us permission to access, including the following information:
Information You Provide or Allow Us to Access: In order to use Copper, you may choose to provide us with information such as name, address, phone number, email address, and date of birth. You may also give us permission to access information stored on your personal devices, such as location, address book information, photos, and videos. You may also give us permission to access information from other online services you use. Over time we intend to add more types of information based on feedback from users like you and the developers that use Copper. When you use Copper to create an account with the services that work with Copper (our “Application Providers”), we will ask your permission to share select pieces of your information with them so that you can create a new account or sign in to an existing account with each service.
Communications: If you contact us directly, such as when you request customer support or communicate with us via email, text message, or social media sites, we will receive your contact information and any additional information you provide.
We collect information from your use of Copper, including the following information:
Device Information: We may receive certain information about your device or browser when you interact with Copper, such as internet protocol (IP) or other device addresses or identifiers, push notification tokens, internet service provider, browser type, operating system information, date/time stamp, language preferences, your mobile carrier, and system configuration information.
Usage Information: To help us understand how you use Copper and to help us improve it, we may receive information about your interactions with our Services, like the pages or other content you view, the dates and times of your visits, and which online services you register for or sign in to using Copper.
Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar technologies to remember you so you do not have to log in to our Services each time you access them and to provide and improve our Services and your experience. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in your device memory.
How We Use Information We Collect
We use the information you provide us primarily to make it useful to you. We may also use it to understand how to better serve our users and communicate with you from time to time.
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide our Services;
- Aggregate and de-identify device and usage data and use it to analyze, improve, and expand our Services;
- Communicate with you via email and informational text messages, for example, when we verify a request from you to register with one of our Application Providers through Copper; and
- Find and prevent fraud or other illegal activities.
Information Sharing and Disclosures
We only share your information with Application Providers when you tell us to. We do not sell your information.
We do not sell your information to third parties.
We will only share your information in the following ways:
Application Providers: We will share your information with Application Providers only at your direction and with your consent. Application Providers use of your information is governed by their privacy policies and your settings on their services; be sure to review their privacy policies before you decide to share your information with them.
Third Parties: Our Services may optionally allow you to use third party services, such as Facebook and Twitter, to share with your friends that you are using Copper. Whatever you choose to share with such services is governed by their privacy policies, not ours.
Infrustructure Providers: We rely on products and services from various service provides for operational needs such as hosting, measurement, and improving our Services for you. We may share your information with the infrustructure providers who perform services on our behalf. Some of our infrustructure providers may use cookies, web beacons, or other technologies to keep track of your activity on our Services and other sites or apps, such as analytics providers who help us better understand how our users interact with our Services.
Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement Requests; Protection of Our Rights: We may disclose your information (including your personal information) to a third party if (a) we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, (b) to enforce our agreements, policies, and Terms of Use, (c) to protect the security or integrity of our Services, (d) to protect the property, rights, and safety of us, our users, or the public from harm or illegal activities, (e) to respond to an emergency which we believe in good faith requires us to disclose information to assist in preventing the death or serious bodily injury of any person, or (f) to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations.
We will use reasonable efforts to object to any government requests for your data that we believe to be improper. In the event that we will disclose your information to a government entity, we will make a reasonable effort to provide you with notice of the disclosure, unless prohibited by law.
Business Transfers: We may share or transfer your information (including your personal information) in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business or all or a portion of any affiliated companies to another company. We may notify you of changes in ownership or transfer of assets by posting a notice on our website.
Your Consent: We will share your personal information with other companies, organizations, or individuals when we have your consent to do so.
The Choices You Have With Your Information
You can update, correct, or delete your information or modify what information is sent to Application Providers at any time by accessing your account settings.
You may visit your account settings in order to update, correct, or delete certain personal information. In your account settings, you can also update your permissions for the sharing of your personal information Application Providers at any time, though keep in mind that they may have a copy of any data you previously shared. If you wish to close your Copper account, you may email us or select the option in your account settings. If you close your account, we will make efforts to delete your personal information, unless we have to keep it for legal reasons. Please note, however, that we cannot guarantee that all instances of your information will be deleted from our Services; for example, some information may be held in inaccessible locations such as backup files, our Services may be inaccessible due to a network outage, or our code may have unexpected programming errors.
We will give you communication preferences that we honor.
You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from us by using the unsubscribe link within each email. Even after you opt out from receiving promotional messages from us, you will continue to receive important administrative and security messages from us regarding our Services. You can also turn on or off push notifications through your account settings or your operating system’s settings.
Data Storage and Security
We only transfer information from your device to our services when it is required to provide you the Copper service.
When you request that we share information from your device with an Application, we upload that information to our servers to facilitate the transfer. We may also upload your information our Service for backup purposes, and to make it available for you when you use Copper on multiple devices. If an Application requires regular updates of your information, we will automatically upload updated information from your device to our servers on a periodic basis.
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this Policy. Unfortunately, the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or store on the Services.
Children’s Privacy
Copper is not directed to children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at humans@withcopper.com.
International users
If you use Copper, your Information will be stored and processed in the United States.
Our Services are hosted in the United States and intended for users located within the United States. If you choose to use Copper from the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, please note that you are transferring your information outside of those regions to the United States for storage and processing. By providing your information, you consent to any transfer and processing in accordance with this Policy.
Changes to our Privacy Policy
We may change our Privacy Policy from time to time, and will notify you by revising the “Last Modified” date at the top of this page.
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Modified" date at the top of this Privacy Policy and, in some cases, where appropriate we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to the home screen or sending you an email). Your continued use of our Services after the revised Policy has become effective indicates that you have read, understood, and agreed to the current version of this Policy.
