I am using the 64 bit MSVC build of 0.12.1-rc3 on a windows 7 machine and I find that when I try to use the [sitepage] and [sitepages] variables in my header or footer, they do not replace with the values when I specify them with plain text arguments using the header-text option.
For example: --header-text="Page [sitepage] / [sitepages]"
The variables do work when they are in an html document that is specified using the header-html and footer-html options.

Confirmed. This doesn't work either on the Mac.

Apparently, this is by design -- see the original issue and the commit ebf825c. I don't think it will be easy to provide in PdfConverterPrivate::endPage which is what is used when you use a non-HTML header. We probably need to improve the documentation to mention that it is only available for HTML headers/footers.

A development snapshot 0.12.2-6a13a51 is available, which should fix this issue. Please report back if your issue is not solved with the above snapshot.
