A great improvement would be to make the existing Quick Start Guide more visible. Maybe have a little Dashboard message upon first installation that says, "It looks like this is your first time installing s2Member. We recommend spending 2 minutes familiarizing yourself with s2Member terminology and basic configuration by reading the Quick Start Guide. Would you like to start? Yes | No"
Then, when you click Yes, you'd get sent to the Quick Start Guide, with all of the panels already opened. Having the panels already opened is so important there, IMO, because it lets the user read the entire page without opening each panel one by one. That also makes it possible to quickly scan the entire Quick Start Guide.
I also suggest changing the name from "Quick Start Guide" to "Getting Started" too. I know for me, when I hear "Quick" it immediately decreases the value of it in my head, whereas "Getting Started" feels like it contains something I should probably know before I get started, which is exactly what Quick Start Guide contains: basic, foundational information and terminology that a site owner needs to know before setting up s2Member.
Aside: There are several links in the s2Member → Quick-Start Guide → Getting Help w/ s2Member section that should be updated.
- Rename "Quick Start Guide" to "Getting Started"
- Replace any occurrences of "Quick Start Guide" with "Getting Started"
- Display Dashboard message when installing s2Member for the first time: "It looks like this is your first time installing s2Member. We recommend spending 2 minutes familiarizing yourself with s2Member terminology and basic configuration by reading the Quick Start Guide. Would you like to start? Yes | No"
- Open all panels by default on the Quick Start Guide page to make the page easier to read.
- Add a button near the top that allows a site owner to easily collapse all of the open panels in case they prefer to open them one-by-one.
- Update links in s2Member → Quick-Start Guide → Getting Help w/ s2Member to use s2Member.com Redirects (so they can be easily updated); note that there may already be Redirects created for some of the links
- Do a complete review of the entire Quick Start Guide and update where necessary. Are there any new features, or new shortcodes, that we could mention in this guide?
