WYMEditor, including latest git master repo, is completely broken under IE9. I built from the git repo in the hopes that the issues were fixed. The demos that come with WYMEditor show the problems rather well. Here's a rough overview of the big breakages that make this a deal-breaker:

  1. Caret doesn't move between characters. It is either at the start of a line or the end of a line.
  2. Pressing enter inserts weird paragraph tags.
  3. Clicking a 'p' tag causes a weird selection box to show up. Double-clicking it enters some bizarre editor mode.
  4. Scrollbars never vanish. Inner content area is always wider than the iframe.

Basically, it is completely unusable.

Why am I not surprised? Feels like with every new IE release something breaks – what you're reporting seems to be the worst breakage yet though.

Although I did some testing in the RC and I do not remember these issues, although I might not have been that thorough. The frame should be running in "IE 7"-mode due to bugs/changes in 8 (like the resize handles showing up for everything with layout.)

Do you have any more details regarding what changes that might be causing this? And what version of WYMeditor are you using?

Yeah, I've noticed this on my IE9 test box as well.

I obviously didn't care enough to fix it :-)

Does anyone have any more details? I'm completely swamped in work for the coming week or two, so I won't be able to do much until after that.

This is a really serious issue, and it'd be great if some one we're able to take it on ASAP.

@mrlundis I don't actually have an ie9 test virtualbox set up. From a perspective of my priority, this is below fixing some compatibility problems in ie7 and ie8 that have cropped up. Sometimes, the entire iframe goes blue when editing and takes a bit to come back. It seems to be related to xhtml() calls, but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it.

ie9 support is definitely important to me, but it's not something I'll be able to devote time to soon.

Yeah, I don't have a working ie9 setup either...

@samuelcole: You said you have a working IE9 box – care to give it a shot?

An update for anyone following this, but @samuelcole and @mrlundis did some debugging and determined that it's actually a stylesheet problem, but it hasn't yet been narrowed down a particular style. Some stylesheets work and some cause problems.
