Code looks ok, but I'm not sure on the UI changes. Maybe add a photo and tag Stefana so she could also give an opinion on this.
Also, have you looked into the live data properties panel before finding this solution? If it would be possible to find a persistent and safe implementation of the livedata, I think it would be better, as it would be easier to maintain.

Added admin section to customize which columns are shown in the livetable on the Ideas homepage. It uses a static list picker from xwiki-pro-commons.
