1. I installed 3.1.2
2. I tried to start my existing machine. It uses NAT and bridge network.
3. It failed with VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND message.

I was installing over a previous version on a WinXP-32 that was getting a bit 
flaky.
I reinstalled my Guest machine and then Vbox 3.1.2 with no problem.

Not sure this is an issue anymore.
