As far as I know, Flatpak is a platform for graphical end-user applications. Yacy offers a WebGUI, but is more of a background service.

Ya. YaCy could use a gui i guess, something like i2pd: https://www.flathub.org/apps/details/website.i2pd.i2pd
Do you really need a gui to push it as a flatpak?

I don't know if it's a prerequisite. I'm basing this on the description of the @flatpak developers.
From there website:

Flatpak is a next-generation technology for building and distributing desktop applications on Linux

I don't see our software Yacy as the typical desktop application. Please don't take the discussion as a no, but as "we have to think longer". But if you want to try to create such a package, we will gladly support you with our knowledge. And I think I speak @Orbiter from the heart when I say "every pull request is welcome."

Hello @frankenstein91

  • 'I don't see our software Yacy as the typical desktop application'

i2pd router is on flathub. Yacy is typical enough. I think people would love to run / use a P2P search engine instead of google, bing, etc.

  • 'But if you want to try to create such a package, we will gladly support you with our knowledge. And I think I speak @Orbiter from the heart when I say "every pull request is welcome.'

Unfortunately, im a renovation/construction worker, i know nothing about coding. I was just saying that releasing Yacy as flatpak would advertise/expose it a lot. Flatpak are getting more and more popular. Just my 2cents. Thanks!
