I would like to include some math symbols in the title of my deck. I have tried many combinations, such as:

title       : "$\alpha$"
title       : "$$\alpha$$"
title       : "$\\alpha$"

...etc., but I can't seem to get it to work. I also checked up on this issue, but this seems to be different (and everything is contained on a single line). Is it possible to include math in a deck title? What about super/subscripts?

Unfortunately it is not possible, unless you turn off the automatic title slide (seal = FALSE) and write your own title slide, e.g.

---
title: "Presentation Ninja"
author: "Yihui Xie"
date: "2016/12/12"
output:
  xaringan::moon_reader:
    seal: false
---

class: center, middle, inverse, title-slide

# Presentation Ninja $\alpha$

### Author

### 2016/12/12

---

# Your first slide
