Cannot get Yourls to connect to database #498

Original description
Trying to run yourls on a godaddy shared hosting account.
Created database. MySQL 5.0.91 according to phpMyAdmin. Can connect to database fine in phpMyAdmin.
Have triple checked username, password, host, db settings in config.php file. Changed password once and confirmed change took with phpMyAdmin.
Error I get:
Error establishing mySQL database connection. Correct user/password? Correct hostname? Database server running? in /home/.../yourls/includes/class-mysql.php on line 298
Weird. Have not attempted debugging yet, wanted to know if this is known issue with MySQL 5.0.91 or GoDaddy hosting before diving into the code.
