I'm using youtube-dl to keep an archived local copy of a particular youtube channel. What I have found that each time my script is executed to download new files, --add-metadata is evaluated and the metadata is updated for every video it finds whether it is a new file or not. I imagine that this is working as expected since this would be useful if say someone ran an instance of youtube-dl without --add-metadata and later decided they wanted to add metadata but in my case it seems to be extra redundant work that could be eliminated. My suggestion is maybe a flag for --add-metadata, maybe something like "--add-metadata new-only" that would execute the add metadata portion if the video it just downloaded was new.
