md5sum of tarball does not match asserted value.
was site hacked or did someone fail to update the MD5SUMS file?

i got it from this page

which is referred to by the "Latest" link on https://yt-dl.org/

and i suggest it would be more accurate to have labeled my bug report as "cannot reproduce" rather than "invalid".

It's not a valid bug report, so closed. Please check your file. If the problem is still, please show how did you download the file. Most likely redirection is not used.
