I know it's not really an issue but the speed with which youtube-dl is growing i think we should also think about renovating the old website by adding new and better graphics. I am not that good with graphics and have little experience making websites otherwise i would have done this myself . However i can help anyone who goes forward to renovate the website.

Umm, aside from the background and the CC license image, we don't have any graphics on the website. What precisely would you want to see changed?

I think we should re build it from scratch because the current website looks like as if it was made in 90's . Either we can use github's page themes or we can take inspiration from them. What do you say ?

Well, I'd like to put the downloading instructions onto the frontpage, and maybe make the buttons into tabs, and integrate the code with the download-server branch. Other than that, we may also want to update the content. Namely, I'd like to generate the list of supported sites from youtube-dl --extractor-descriptions.

And apart from what you want i would like to have a logo for youtube-dl. I know youtube-dl is only a command-line program but that does not stop us from having a logo. I will do some research and will see if i can come up with one.

youtube-dl logo
I have made this logo. What do you say ? It took me quite some time to make it. Any Critical comments are welcome. :D

That looks great, but that's just asking for trademark problems (the name already might be). Therefore, I'd rather be as far from the YouTube color scheme as possible.

Can you change that to a different color scheme, and style the name as youtube-dl (with youtube in one color)? Additionally, people may not know that what dl stands for. You're already hinting it with the small flap, but maybe we could emphasize the download part a little bit ore.

Also, can you upload the original? If we pick a logo, we should be able to generate versions of it in all resolutions.

Okay i can change the colour scheme thats not a problem but nothing came to my mind apart from this scheme. Perhaps you can suggest something ? I have made this logo in photoshop and will soon upload it when its finalized. Apart from that do you want me to write DL completely like Downloader ?

No, the logo should say youtube-dl, like our executable name. I meant that the dl graphic should hint what dl means.

@jaimeMF What do you say about the logo. What should be changed in this. Let me first collect suggestions because this will decrease the time required for making the final logo.

Concerning content on the site, I think a few tutorials going over common use case (downloading single vid, best quality, worst quality, downloading playlist with playlist_index, resuming, etc) would help attract more people to youtube-dl and anyway from inferior alternatives.

@yasoob I agree with phihag that it should be youtube-dl not youtube dl. Also personally I'd like to get the original not in the Photoshop file format, I'd prefer SVG: most modern browsers have direct support for it, it's completely open and I'm sure there are ways to automate the exportation to different resolutions, and (I think this is quite important, but has also drawbacks) it's no a binary format. Apart from that I don't think I can provide more comments in design aspects.
@JasonJAyalaP if we get some of this content from the community we'd appreciate.

Regarding a project logo, I had some nice results using fiverr for one of my pet projects.
I'd happily donate the 5.00 for an attempt. (Obviously one cannot expect excessively professional logo designs for that; but it's still better than nothing.)
A summary of color constraints or design ideas, or even a quirky Inkscape mockup probably would suffice.
