Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2016.10.16. If it's not read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

  • [ ] I've verified and I assure that I'm running youtube-dl 2016.10.16

Got version 2016.07.06 but since it is more of a format problem then this is irrelevant or
at least I hope so.

Before submitting an issue make sure you have:

  • [ X ] At least skimmed through README and most notably FAQ and BUGS sections
  • [ X] Searched the bugtracker for similar issues including closed ones

What is the purpose of your issue?

  • Bug report (encountered problems with youtube-dl)
  • Site support request (request for adding support for a new site)
  • Feature request (request for a new functionality)
  • Question
  • Other

I am on Arch derivative Linux using ffmpeg 2.7.2

The question is: I got Sony Bravia SmartTV (it's really pretty dumb if you ask me)

But on this TV I can play youtube vids via youtube app with no problems but when I download
a video with youtube-dl it won't play via minidlna to TV with the dumb error message "Audio format
is not supported."

I guess the TV is smart enough to choose a format that it can play I am however apparently to
dumb to do it with youtube-dl.

The availble formats with --list-all is

Here is a list what the bloody telly can do regards to formats:
https://esupport.sony.com/info/799/US/EN/

Looks like only aac is supported by the bloody telly?

I guess I cannot see the correct combination of sound and video to mux, huh?

I tried --audio-format aac and got an .mkv file muxed of 135 and 251 but audio
could not be played.

I tried things like -f 135+171

Okay

So now I saw that some files was not "audio only" nor "video only" so I tried with
-f 18 and it works on my telly.

I guess I am at least as smart as my dumb TV :-)
