If the purpose of this issue is a site support request please provide all kinds of example URLs support for which should be included (replace following example URLs by yours):

Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

.m3u8 links are obtained from milkshake.tv or channel5.com (same result for both sites). Seems geo-blocked, so UK VPN is needed outside UK.
Downloading fails with and without --hls-prefer-native
I'd be very grateful if downloading is possible somehow. Thanks!

Has downloading from Channel 5 ever worked?

Their catch-up TV service was previously called "Demand 5" and is now called "My5". Issue #6543 is a request for Demand 5, so it should probably be closed?

I don't know how to obtain the m3u8 URLs given above. I would like to see URLs like this supported: https://www.my5.tv/cant-pay-well-take-it-away/season-4/episode-20 (That episode will be available until December 2017. The available shows can be browsed at https://www.my5.tv/categories/all )

Channel 5 use to work, but when it changed to my5 it stopped working, I've asked for my5's support to be looked into again but my request has been silenced by @dstftw
