Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2017.01.25. If it's not read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

  • I've verified and I assure that I'm running youtube-dl 2017.01.25

Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

Twitch recently replaced the twitch.tv/<user>/v/<video_id> VOD URL format with the twitch.tv/videos/<video_id> URL format, which the Twitch extractor doesn't recognise.

The generic extractor does detect that the page is a Twitch VOD and passes it to the twitch:vod extractor, allowing the VOD to be downloaded.

The old URL format now redirects (301 Moved Permanently) to the new URL format.
