  • You will be asked some questions and requested to provide some information, please read them carefully and answer honestly
  • Put an x into all the boxes [ ] relevant to your issue (like that [x])

Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2017.02.24.1. If it's not read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

What is the purpose of your issue?

  • Bug report (encountered problems with youtube-dl)
  • Site support request (request for adding support for a new site)
  • Feature request (request for a new functionality)
  • Question
  • Other

The following sections concretize particular purposed issues, you can erase any section (the contents between triple ---) not applicable to your issue

If the purpose of this issue is a bug report, site support request or you are not completely sure provide the full verbose output as follows:

Add -v flag to your command line you run youtube-dl with, copy the whole output and insert it here. It should look similar to one below (replace it with your log inserted between triple ```):

↑Doesn't work if set the proxy to geo-check only

Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

  1. Find a geo-restricted video, in my case, I use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxTv5i9eCSQ which is restricted in the US but not in Japan.
  2. Set up a Japan proxy. I have a shadowsocks server in Japan so I can use socks5://127.0.0.1:1644 in my local end.

Now, I can download with my proxy without problem. See the first half of the log above.

But I can't get the "geo-verification-proxy " to work. I set my Japan proxy as the geo verification proxy only and use direct connect for download. It throws "This video contains content from PONYCANYON. It is not available in your country." warning.

Edit: the video link was WRONG. I have corrected it. Sorry for the confusion.

If the dev needs a Japan proxy to test I can provide, just PM me.

Hmm, seems this is available for all countries other than US.

https://polsy.org.uk/stuff/ytrestrict.cgi says, that the example video is restricted in Japan too
(also locked in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea)

so try Canada or Europe ;)

@GeorgeHamp Somehow when I was copying my console, I missed the last column... now I tried my best to correct my original post and comments. The link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxTv5i9eCSQ.
