Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

I don't know where the youtube-dl project is physically located, but I'd be careful with the name. Youtube is very likely a registered trademark. If they can't shut you down for enabling videos to be downloaded, then they sure could make a legal mess for you with trademark infringement. Even if you aren't in the US, different countries have treaties about trademarks, enabling cross-border legal action.

I love your software and would hate to see you have any legal issues just because of the name. If you haven't done so already, you might wish to consider an alternative name, or at least some legal advice if not already done.

Please feel free to disregard if you prefer... just trying to look out for you :-)

Many thanks to you and your excellent developers. Wish I could help with code, but I'm only an R programmer.

Best wishes.

There is no legal entity behind youtube-dl thus there is nobody to make legal mess for. All development is voluntary and I doubt there are any risks apart from being shut down on GitHub via request according to GitHub's DMCA Takedown Policy.
Changing name will double the costs for domains and probably break some stuff and all this ado just for nothing.
