  • I've verified and I assure that I'm running youtube-dl 2017.05.09
$ youtube-dl --version
2017.05.09
  • At least skimmed through README and most notably FAQ and BUGS sections
  • Searched the bugtracker for similar issues including closed ones
  • Bug report (encountered problems with youtube-dl)

Trying to download this YouTube video with audio extraction (-x --audio-format flac --audio-quality 0) enabled causes youtube-dl to download the video in webm, it then converts it to flac which is good, but then also converts it to mkv with vorbis as audio stream (no video stream) which is completely different from the selected --audio-format file format.

$ youtube-dl -civwx --audio-format flac --audio-quality 0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldhnulwgFmo

It does exactly what you ask it to do: --recode-video mkv.

[debug] Command-line args: [u'--audio-quality', u'0', u'--recode-video', u'mkv', u'-civwx', u'--audio-format', u'flac', u'--audio-quality', u'0', u'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldhnulwgFmo']

u'--recode-video', u'mkv'

God damn. I'm sorry for this invalid bug report, I noticed I had an old alias in my .bashrc 😊
