Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2017.07.15. If it's not read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

  • I've verified and I assure that I'm running youtube-dl 2017.07.15

Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

Hey!
I am downloading a playlist from youtube using the archive function of youtube-dl. This way I can keep my local copy up to date in a quick and easy way. Though there are sometimes errors due to restricted content in my country. And it's true that some videos may not be viewed here (in Germany)
Thats fine, I don't really need those. I can ignore them with the -i option. But if the playlist is containing thousands of videos, combinded with a slow internet connection, trying to process the unarchived video over and over again costs a lot of extra time.

Im pretty sure you know what I mean, but anyway, here's a snippet of my output

[download] Downloading video 63 of 693
[download] Bruno Mars – That's What I Like (Alan Walker Remix) has already been recorded in archive
[download] Downloading video 64 of 693
[download] Galantis – Rich Boy (Said The Sky Remix) has already been recorded in archive
[download] Downloading video 65 of 693
[youtube] N9aAKsGM9EI: Downloading webpage
[youtube] N9aAKsGM9EI: Downloading video info webpage
ERROR: N9aAKsGM9EI: YouTube said: This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.
[download] Downloading video 66 of 693
[download] Bebe Rexha – I Got You (BKAYE Remix) [Future Bass] has already been recorded in archive

... and so on.

When downloading with the --download-archive option, in my opinion, there should be some sort of way to put the failed downloads into that archive file (or a second one)
so because I won't move anywhere, youtube-dl doesn't even need to try downloading restricted videos over and over again.

I could think of something like --remember-geo-errors or --geo-error-archive FILE
Maybe there is just some cool workaround available that I didn't think of.

Thank you! :)
