thanks for the mention, I do package youtube-dl for Solus but I'm not the sole packager. Everyone can package a new version on top of the current one. :)

I don't know yet, will reach the Solus team to ask about that and come back to you when I will have a proper answer.

Really unsure whats going on here but long story short:

• Nobody here is representative of Solus but myself
• Solus does not do anything to add custom donation links, that's part of appstream.
• If youtube-dl gained AppStream, then the link would be in the software center.
• There is no reason for anyone to HAVE to use appstream
• There is nothing further for Solus to do but to keep updating youtube-dl.
• There is nothing more for youtube-dl to do if they don't want appstream ..

@remitamine actually your assertion is incorrect. We just expose upstream provided information, it's not really a maintainer issue. You're also pointing at the machine generated file from the last builder, the git log will show that there are multiple people working on multiple packages.

Anyway, if you don't want appstream, coolness, then close this, because it's the only way in which the information gets exposed.
