Also if updating the downloader doesn't fix it, please post which command are you using.

@alonewolfer There is now a new alternative documented on the download page. Try

sudo curl https://yt-dl.org/downloads/2013.09.16/youtube-dl -o /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
