Hi,
I've been using youtube-dl for a long time and currently I'm getting this error message on a lot of videos, examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8SPwT3nQZB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBZdwRYVkWE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=466VHt8KldM
and many more.
What's going on?

So far, I can't reproduce these. Can you access the videos in your browser? Where are you physically located, and in what network ?

Hi,
I'm using it on my server, it's located in USA (ip 184.106.218.195).
I'm using the latest version of youtube-dl and when I use for example command
youtube-dl -o "/root/public_html/sranda" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvnkAtWcKYg
I get this:
[youtube] Setting language
[youtube] RvnkAtWcKYg: Downloading video webpage
[youtube] RvnkAtWcKYg: Downloading video info webpage
ERROR: unable to download video info webpage: HTTP Error 402: Payment Required
Funny thing I just noticed, it happens just sometimes… When I was testing some links now some worked and when I tested those same links later the didn't and then they worked again etc…
Can it be that youtube somehow blocked my server ip or anything like that?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvnkAtWcKYg works fine for me from the US, but is again blocked in Germany. If youtube would block you, it would probably do so for a prolonged amount of time.

Do you get the same errors from another network? If so, do you get an error message when you use an interactive browser, like Chromium? If the answer to both questions is yes, I'm afraid the problem you're facing is on youtube's side and there's nothing youtube-dl can do about it.

I didn't get the error from dailymotion and metacafe, for example this one doesn't work too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDy2wCQYSrU , but as I said they work from time to time I don't get it…
I'm not very unix experience so I can't really check that in browser for any error messages sorry -.-.

@haluzak I'm assuming you do have a webbrowser - after all, how are you writing these comments ? If you point that at the youtube URL, what do you see? Same picture with the new URL - works from the US, blocked from Germany (If you're wondering why so many videos are blocked: It's because of licensing about music videos).

I mean that I can't check it on browser from my server, where I actually use the youtube-dl. When I check it from my notebook it shows the website properly ofc. I'm from Slovakia and my server is located in US so the Germany blockage shouldn't be any p problem for me.
The problem is I get the 402 Error in many videos, they are probably all licensed as you say that might be the problem. But as I said, sometimes those videos work, sometimes they don't… How come you don't get the error if it's only from licensed videos? Is it because of my server?

Oops, sorry, my bad - I overlooked the most obvious. You're being blocked by youtube for excessive usage. Sorry for taking so long to point to the FAQ.
