If the purpose of this issue is a bug report, site support request or you are not completely sure provide the full verbose output as follows:

Add the -v flag to your command line you run youtube-dl with (youtube-dl -v <your command line>), copy the whole output and insert it here. It should look similar to one below (replace it with your log inserted between triple ```):

Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

Several websites of various television networks (at least here in Italy) use the MTV player, which identifies videos through the so-called MGID. It can be seen in the HTML code:

<meta name="twitter:player" content="https://mediamtvnserv-a.akamaihd.net/fb/mgid:arc:video:spiketv.it:89d3c6f3-4825-447a-bdeb-7eea4914858d.swf">
[...]
<meta property="og:video" content="http://media.mtvnservices.com/fb/mgid:arc:video:spiketv.it:89d3c6f3-4825-447a-bdeb-7eea4914858d.swf">

However, currently these videos are not recognized because:

  • mediamtvnserv-a.akamaihd.net does not match the domain of the MTV valid URL
  • /fb/ does not match the path of the MTV valid URL
  • trying to replace /fb/ with /embed/ with the SWF URL does not work either

Proposed solution

Ideally, any page containing a og:video using this kind of MTV player should work and the title should be extracted via og:title if available. Also, fetching the URLs is quite simple because it can be reduced to extracting the MGID and getting this XML file:

https://mediautilssvcs-a.akamaihd.net/services/MediaGenerator/mgid%3Aarc%3Avideo%3Aspiketv.it%3Aaa25d2ee-31c7-488b-947c-ee2dea7c02e6?accountOverride=intl.mtvi.com

Which contains several RTMPe URLs.
