Could you post the output of youtube-dl 'http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/049313-000/the-perfect-american?autoplay=1' -v, it's working fine for me

Works fine for me as well, from multiple locations and with multiple debian as well as arch versions. Where are you physically located? Can you reproduce the problem on another machine / with another internet connection?
