Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2018.06.14. If it's not, read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

  • I've verified and I assure that I'm running youtube-dl 2018.06.14

Currently, each peertube instance needs to be manually added to youtube-dl. It would be nicer if youtube-dl had a generic extractor that simply tried to detect peertube instances (the API's a good start, also webfinger and stuff), as then peertube-supporting versions would be compatible with all peertube instances. This is a bigger deal for things like ubuntu which don't have rolling release.

I guess youtube-dl-2018.06.11 does use generic extractor, but it doesn't work correctly :(
