Make sure you are using the latest version: run youtube-dl --version and ensure your version is 2018.11.23. If it's not, read this FAQ entry and update. Issues with outdated version will be rejected.

Can't download a video from the BBC for reference in case it goes down / changes.

tried get_iplayer https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer which didn't work either

Thanks that worked.

For now, solution is to find & use the co.uk equivalent. Will send a pull request if time.
