Description of your issue, suggested solution and other information

The download fails when -f 'bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/mp4' is used. I presume the reason for this issue is that the chosen audio and video formats don't match for some reason and can't be merged to mp4 (please correct me if I'm wrong); I observed that -f best instead of -f 'bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/mp4' works well for this YouTube video.

Regardless, without the -v flag, the only error message I get is Last message repeated 1 times and I have no idea what happened:

[ffmpeg] Merging formats into "FolkRight Friday - Paganism 101-DdlgHLb5ops.mp4"
ERROR: Last message repeated 1 times

It would be great if youtube-dl could actually merge formats or download the matching ones, but, if that's not possible, it would be fine if the error message could be improved.

Can youtube-dl actually output that instead of ERROR: Last message repeated 1 times?

No, cause there is no indication where is the actual error message in ffmpeg's output.

That's quite unfortunate. Thanks for responding.
