Regional availability of the video seems to be restricted to the US. I'll look into it.

Both videos are 404/403 now, both from Germany and the US, and even when logged in. Therefore, I'm closing this issue for now. Please open a new bug report if this problem occurs again, and include your physical location.

I just checked and the video link I posted on Nov 24 is still active for the US. Need to be signed in to view. Bug still reproducible.

youtube-dl -i "youtube_url" works in this case.

I'm also getting this error for

youtube-dl -g UoSDLBPrx8A

Which is a purchasable result.

@danielpclark rental videos are not supported.

@dstftw Good. I wasn't hoping it would be. But the error is reproducible and should be an easy fix as a nickname is an easy thing to extract. So this is useful for resolving the issue.

@danielpclark not reproducible for me. Could you post *.dump files created when run youtube-dl with --write-pages?

@danielpclark danielpclark commented Jul 25, 2015

The error seems to only be produced on my Raspbian distro on my Raspberry Pi. Both --dump-pages and --write-pages are invalid command line options for it.

youtube-dl --version
2012.02.27

I tried to reproduce this on my Ubuntu box but it isn't reproducible there.

Both extremely outdated, update to latest, try again and open a new issue if you can reproduce.
I'm closing this since none of mentioned videos are either available with US IP or reproduce the error.
