Hello! Am almost done with the OSX GUI for your awesome program, but have run into a snag. It seems almost every site uses different quality/format flags on their streams (i.e. Youtube - "HQ22", Vimeo - "Best", DailyMotion - "LQ/Standard/HQ"). Is there any universal flags (say relating to resolution) out there? Or, is there any type of list anywhere of what flags are used by the most popular sites?

Thanks Again!!!

Adam :0)

No, there is neither. I can imagine adding pseudo-formats for maximum resolution or bitrate. If you think this would be useful, feel free to file an issue with details (this one contains too many questions for that).

A list of supported types would quickly grow redundant and/or outdated. You can simply query with -F instead.

Personally, I don't use the format system at all - I always want the best quality. Therefore, I'd have to consider the rationale for selecting formats first.

@artphotodude Can you share the GUI and is it open-source?

Elite: The GUI is built in Applescript and working very well. Will be adding one last element when is to see if it is possible to grep the -F command to get all available formats to populate the choices dialog. Once I verify if that will or won't work, will put the app in a drop-box for you.

Elite: The App is DONE!! Several nice little extras including custom quality/format selectors for 32 of the biggest web-video sites and a framework that is VERY easy to edit in Applescript for users to add more.

The biggest thing I'm happy about is a secondary "Quicklaunch" app that can be triggered from a hotkey shortcut after a video URL is copied IN ANY BROWSER that will open the App AND paste the copied URL in a single motion (please see the installation section of the Read Me). You can download the app here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v08uf55mmotmmon/PPC%20Media%20Center%20%28G.U.I.%20for%20youtube-dl%29.dmg

It is made for OSX 10.4.11-10.5 PPC, but should easily be able to be updated to Intel (notes in the Read Me).

Thanks, I have an Intel Mac so this might take some time.

Elite: Since you are on Intel, you will likely not need the "Stream to QuickTime" code to work, as your browser already does it (PPC users can't even view half of what is out there!). I am guessing you mostly need the downloader and updaters. This GREATLY simplifies the script. Will be happy to help out if you have any questions.

To Elite and other OSX users, have finished the Front End and it is working GREAT. Even added full-support for multi-segmented videos (normally broken up by commercials). Has current quality-codes/selectors for Comedy Central. When the first part is finished, all you have to do is close the QuickTime window and the script will load the next section in another window, until the episode is watched.

Have also found the code changes to make it work on Intel Macs (Snow Leopard at least). Anyone wanting to do an Intel version or interested in the current PPC version, just drop me a reply.

Elite, will be home all weekend, so we should be able to get you all set up. First I need you to install Python - preferably from the 3.3 package from python.org. Then we just need to verify how Terminal will need to be called: so once it is installed, just open terminal and type "python3.3" just to make sure it is in place.
Email me once that is done, and we can go from there. Also, you will want to install Spark 3 from http://www.shadowlab.org/Software/spark.php to set up the hotkey-shortcut functionality (unless you already have another way to assign hotkeys).

Lastly, you will want to install RTMPdump. This is actually something that PPC users don't get :0( so you will have one up on me! It opens up the script for a number of sites like CBS.com for watching full-episodes (you will just need to set up quality codes for it - we can talk about that later).
