simulation of filename template issue

pgm aliased as ytube

I was trying to check what the output template should produce but I'm not sure why it doesn't output the filename

$ytube -s -o '%(stitle)s_%(id)s.%(ext)s' 'http://www.youtube.com/user/classxteam#g/p'

Isn't it supposed to do 'title_KV4-2yDY7ZE.mp4' of the playlist to the std output? title should be replaced with whatever title is returned by youtube.

-o just modifies the outputted filename, not the stdout. It couldn't possibly do so since at the moment when the message "Downloading video webpage" is generated, we haven't downloaded the video webpage containing the title yet.

You want the --get-filename option:

$ youtube-dl  -s -o '%(stitle)s_%(id)s.%(ext)s' 'http://youtube.com/user/classxteam' --get-filename
00017_KV4-2yDY7ZE.mp4
