So what would have caused this? Is this something on my side? Its my first time on Linux and first time using this program so i pretty much clueless, or is there something i should do to fix this?

Welcome to Linux! Don't worry it's not a problem on your side. The issue has just appeared recently because of a change YouTube have made. You will have to wait until this is fixed by the developers of youtube-dl and then update youtube-dl. I'm sure you won't need to wait very long.

Fixed in youtube-dl 2014.02.04.1. Type sudo youtube-dl -U to update.
