I am not sure if my question could be consider a feature request.
Since vtt files are used by video players they contain the timing/synching data and text segments are also repeated.
This question has been floating around for some time (for example, reddit). Basically, vtt files could be consolidate into a simple text file (which, of course, may need some post editing) with the option of including just the first timing/synching data or none if the use so chooses.
js synchroinized ted talks transcripts are like that.
