This was fixed 12 hours ago, try upgrading from git (or updating again, there may be a delay for non-git)

@atomicdryad Note that this user uses their distribution's packages.

This has been fixed in version 2014.02.21.1. Contact your distribution's maintainer and request a new package (after that, you'll be able to upgrade with apt-get as usual). Alternatively, you can remove youtube-dl with sudo apt-get remove -y youtube-dl and then install it manually. However, that will require you to update youtube-dl yourself with youtube-dl -U.

Thanks, works indeed.
I added http://ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu to the apt-get sources, just to get the automatic updates for youtube-dl . Biut indeed youtube-dl -U is a great way to update.

had the same problem, solved after removing the package installed using apt-get and reinstalling from the source using curl..
